What's NOT confirmed yet — don't let anyone tell you otherwise

❌ Final premium rates (RM60 is "expected from around", not a price list) · ❌ Exact benefits, annual limits, ward class, deductibles & co-payments for Teras vs Fleksi · ❌ Which six insurers and which hospitals · ❌ Whether or how existing policyholders can switch · ❌ Viral claims like "340,000 policies cancelled" — unverified · ❌ "Government insurance replaces my medical card" — coverage scope not published. Anyone quoting these as fact is guessing.

📋 The 5-Point Checklist — Before You Switch or Buy ANY Medical Plan

Screenshot this. It works for your current medical card today, and for MediAsas when the details drop.

1

Room & Board Limit

What ward class does it pay for? A plan that covers RM150/night when private hospitals charge RM400+ means you top up the difference — and often a proportional share of the whole bill.

2

Annual & Lifetime Limit

One major surgery + ICU stay can cross RM100k. Check the yearly cap AND the lifetime cap. "Basic" plans usually cap low — that's what asas means.

3

Co-Payment & Deductible

Does the plan make you pay the first RM500–RM2,000, or a % of every bill? Lower premium almost always = more cost-sharing when you claim. Know the number BEFORE you're in a hospital bed.

4

Exclusions & Waiting Periods

Pre-existing conditions, specified illnesses (usually 120 days), general waiting period (usually 30 days). This is where switching hurts: your new plan's waiting clock restarts from zero.

5

Guaranteed Renewal Terms

Can the insurer decline to renew you after a big claim? Until what age? Your current card's renewal terms may be a benefit you can never get back once you cancel — especially if your health has changed.

So What Should YOU Do? Pick Your Situation 👇

💳

"I already have a medical card"

Do NOT cancel on a headline. If your health has changed since you bought it, cancelling can be irreversible — insurers can reject you or exclude pre-existing conditions later. First know exactly what you own: send your policy for a free line-by-line review (any insurer). Then compare properly when MediAsas details drop.

🛡️

"I don't have any insurance yet"

MediAsas is genuinely good news for you. RM60 protection beats zero protection — seriously. Your move: get claim-ready before January 2027 (know your budget, your family's medical history, and what Teras vs Fleksi offers when published). Or check what full protection costs you today — it may be more affordable than you think.

Why This Page Exists

When the government announced MediAsas on 6 July 2026, two very different groups saw the same RM60 headline. Uninsured Malaysians finally saw protection they can afford — that's genuinely worth celebrating. But insured Malaysians started asking a dangerous question: "should I cancel my RM250–400 medical card and switch?"

Here's the honest answer from someone who has facilitated RM 4 million+ in actual claims: nobody — including any advisor, any agent, and any TikTok video — can responsibly answer that yet, because the benefits, limits and exclusions haven't been published. Anyone pushing you to switch now, or scaring you into staying, is guessing. The only smart move available today is to understand exactly what you currently own, so that when the real MediAsas details drop, your comparison takes 10 minutes instead of a panicked guess.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MediAsas real or a scam?

Real. It was announced by the Ministry of Finance on 6 July 2026 under the JBMKKS healthcare reform committee, reported by The Star, The Edge, FMT and Bernama-linked outlets. But beware of scammers exploiting the news — MediAsas is NOT open for sign-up yet, so anyone selling "MediAsas registration" today is a scam. It pilots in the Klang Valley end-July, nationwide January 2027.

Should I cancel my medical card and switch to MediAsas?

Don't decide on a headline. The benefits and exclusions aren't published, and cancelling can be irreversible — if your health has changed, insurers can decline you or exclude pre-existing conditions when you try to come back. Get your current policy reviewed first (free, any insurer), then compare when official details drop.

I have no insurance. Should I wait for MediAsas or buy now?

It depends on your health, age and budget — waiting has a real risk too: if your health changes before January 2027, options narrow everywhere. RM60 protection beats zero protection, but zero protection until 2027 is still zero protection. Message Keith with your age and situation for an honest take — sometimes the answer really is "wait for MediAsas".

Will MediAsas premiums stay at RM60?

RM60 is the expected starting point for younger entry ages — it climbs with entry age, up to around RM550/month. Whether and how premiums adjust over time hasn't been announced. The Finance Minister II said it's "designed to be affordable over time" — the mechanics will only be clear after the pilot.
